The women taking Pycnogenol also had lower levels oxidative stress, compared to the placebo group.
The Pycnogenol was well tolerated and no side effects were reported by the study participants.
The researchers concluded that Pycnogenol significantly reduced the signs and symptoms associated with menopausal transition in the women in this study and the benefits may be due to decreased oxidative stress in the body. 
Another study conducted at Ham-Ming Hospital in Taiwan found that Pycnogenol (pine bark extract) was able to alleviate menstrual pain and menopausal symptoms, while also improving antioxidant levels and LDL/HDL ratio.
There were no side effects reported by the study participants.
