Increase your immunity naturally by drinking herbal tea

Immune boosting herbal tea is an inexpensive go-to when you feel a cold or flu coming on.

Herbs such as Echinacea and Elderflower can strengthen your immune system, stop a bacterial or viral infection taking hold and keep you healthy during the winter months.

In this article I’ve compiled a list of 5 of the best herbal teas that can soothe a sore throat, ease congestion and keep your immune system strong.

Herbal tea boost immune system

I enjoy drinking herbal tea all throughout the year, but especially in winter it’s nice to have a cup of warming tea.

I like to change up my teas depending on how I’m feeling at the time but as soon as I feel a sore throat or a sniffle coming on I increase my intake of immune boosting herbal tea.

Drinking these teas regularly can stop viral and bacterial infections taking hold and keep you healthy during the winter months.

1. Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea)

Echinacea tea is one of the most well-known herbal teas for boosting immunity.

It stimulates the immune system by boosting the number of white blood cells, which fight infections in the body.

Echinacea tea is made from dried echinacea flowers and leaves. It’s antibacterial and antiviral, so it’s great for dealing with colds and flu.

2. Elderflower (Sambucus nigra)

Elderflower tea helps to relieve the symptoms of colds and flu, sinus infections, and other respiratory disturbances.

Elderflower has antibacterial and antiviral properties and may also help with allergies and boost the immune system.

3. Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)

Licorice tea is anti-inflammatory, antiviral and helps to loosen mucus and soothe irritated mucus membranes. [2]

Licorice is also helpful for increasing immunity and supporting the adrenal glands during times of stress.

4. Rosehips (Rosa canina)

Rosehips are the fruit of the rose plant and they’re one of the best natural sources of vitamin C, which is important for a strong immune system.

Rosehips are also a helpful natural remedy for urinary tract infections.

5. Ginger (Zingiber officinale)

Ginger tea is a popular remedy for nausea but it’s also antibacterial, antiviral and has strong anti-inflammatory properties.

It’s a great tea for keeping the immune system strong and also helps to reduce mucus production, clear up congestion and relieve aches and pains.

So there’s my list of the best herbal teas to boost your immune system.

Drinking herbal tea is a healthy habit to get into to. You can also add a teaspoon of raw honey or a squeeze of lemon for taste and some extra nutrients.

Each herb has different health properties so it’s a good idea to rotate your herbal teas or try an herbal blend to get the maximum health benefits.

Here are two of my favorite immune boosting herbal tea blends:

Gaia Herbs Throat Shield Herbal Tea soothes the throat and supports immune health. It contains Peppermint, Licorice, Sage, Fennel, Grindelia, Marshmallow, Peppermint essential oil and Sage essential oil.

Buddha Teas Divine Immunity Blend is an immune boosting tea that contains organic herbs including Hyssop, Elderberry, Nettle Leaf, Lemongrass, Wild Cherry Bark, Rosehips, Lemon Balm, Astragalus and Cranberry.
